Cell amplification phases take place in bioreactors, which allow cells to expand. They are equipped with a system for controlling ambient physico-chemical parameters such as temperature, pH, pressure or mechanical agitation, to ensure the homogeneity of the culture medium, while guaranteeing the sterility of the culture. This is traditionally ensured by a turbine/blade agitation system integrated into the bioreactor tank. Although effective, this system is not suitable for many cell types such as iPS, due to the high level of shear forces exerted inside the chamber, particularly in large volumes (> 1 L). The forces exerted alter the biology and functions of these cells. This technical limitation hinders the scale-up of allogeneic iPS bioproduction and their potential therapeutic application for all.
SoftCell Therapeutics proposes to solve this problem by increasing production capacity with a disruptive bioreactor.
